Default just got 2009 yfz what to check for

hey guys i just picked up my 2009 yfz450, its very clean and looks well maintained. Before i take it out i wanted to know what i should check first, i checked the oil behind the fan and that is full, i can see my coolant is low in the reservoir under the seat in the rear, also i can see another oil threaded plug in the case but i cannot see oil inside of there. what is that port for?

Also what oil should i be putting in this quad and what type of coolant?

I have a 2009 yfz 450r and I use amsoil 0w-40 full synthetic. It can get a little expensive depending on how much/hard you ride.

Engine Ice is kind of over priced IMO I have always ran just regular antifreeze just make sure it is the green is what I have always been told

Some may say oil is expensive, but it is the insurance policy of not blowing up the internals. I change my oil every other ride with Bel-Ray 10w-40 & a filter. The cleaner & fresher the oil the less likely to fry the crank, cams, etc from wear. $15 for an oil change v $1200 rebuild...

I would go over every bolt on that bike from the a-arms to engine mounts to plastics to subframe. Check everything. If any of the bolts are loose, you don't want to put your life in some else's hands do you? It's just piece of mind know all if tight before ripping it around.

Where do you live OP? Engine Ice freezes at a higher temp than regular coolant so keep that in mind if you make the switch. I was considering it for my sled until I noticed the freezing point was so high.

A lot of antifreeze will corrode aluminum engines, even the ones that aren't supposed to. The only one I've seen that actually works like it's supposed to is the Toyota pink. I would go to your local Toyota or Lexus dealership and buy a gallon. It comes pre mixed 50/50 and a gallon will get you two changes.

Oil change isn't bad either. I bought 10 yamaha filters for mine from rocky mountain at $8.78 each and 10% off with a coupon code. For $15 you can get a gallon of shell rotella T 15w40 diesel oil from walmart which is enough for two changes and that's what eveybody seem to recommend and that's what I'm going to run since I've got a stockpile for my powerstroke. Also check advance auto from time to time if you have one in your area. It's typicalls $17.99/gallon but every few months they do a sale for $12.99.

Sounds like you got a nice bike, enjoy it. I know I'm going to enjoy mine this weekend after everything is together.
