i would get some decent porting, (i run mmad porting and pistons), FCI intake, a monstor or dasa pipe, cams (depending on what kind of riding, i run mmad also)

What kind of riding do you plan on doing? Are you planning on racing or just recreation riding?

does your mom and dad know what you intend on doing with the quad they just bought for you?
Since you have the carbed 2012 model, I'd suggest suspension upgrade, pipe, and fci intake.

second what Haas33 said... You have 10 times more fun with new suspension compared to some extra horsepowers

I'd highly suggest putting that money towards suspension if you want to turn faster lap times and increase overall comfort aboard the YFZ. I've tried multiple engine setups and exhaust setups and nothing compares to suspension improvements.

oh. Well okay then. Not many grown ass adults I know consider running from cops down dirt roads a type of riding. But to each their own.
Not trying to be rude here, but use the search function. There's a ton of threads with the information you're seeking. You will attain more knowledge from reading those than you will from this single thread with a handful of people throwing suggestions your way.

x2 on that. ? 2012X carbed? Aren't the X and R both fuel injected, and the carbed version is just a YFZ450? No X or R

2011 Yamaha YFZ450X Specifications, specs

So the yamaha website says the 2011 and 2010 hav the YFI (yamaha fuel injection) 42mm.

Can anyone else confirm that the 2012 X are carbed?

Just seems off to me.

definately get an aftermarket exhaust and intake...maybe a bigger carb and then get engine work

pointless to do engine work without a good exhaust, intake and carb setup

yeah the new 450s are carbed also have crappy suspension. the r is still fuel injected. yamaha did that just to make a model they could sell for less to try and get more people back into riding quads and boost their sales
