Default questions about a big bore yfz450

Hey guys, new to the site. So far I've found some great information. I was wanting to get some opinions on a couple different bikes I'm looking at purchasing. I used to have a Banshee that I got rid of a few years back, and I'm wanting to get another sport quad. I really love the Banshee, but seems like it's kind of a dinosaur compared to the stuff of today. Here's my deal. Don't want to spend much because I don't have all that much free time to ride. I'll probably hit the dunes a few times a year and ride around the farm some. So I'm thinking of staying below $3K. There are a ton of bikes for sale locally in my area, but my friend just purchased a 05 banshee and a 05 yfz450. The 450 has had a ton of motor work done to it by nmotion out of Wichita (big bore, porting, etc.). It's been riden pretty good, but still in pretty decent shape. Banshee is in good shape and is stock with the exception of T-6's. My real concern is that I have never had a high performance 4-stroke and the all the motor work kind of scares me. Kind of know what to expect with the Banshee. I'm thinking he'll take $2500 for the 450. Sounds like a decent price to me, but can I expect to be working on this thing a bunch or are these motors pretty solid hopped up? I know you have to pay to play, but with the minimal amount of riding I'll probably end up doing I won't be putting a ton of hours on anyway. I have another friend with an 01 Raptor that is in perfect shape and has very low hours he'd probably let go for $1800, but I've heard to many issues with that year. I like the Banhsee, but this 450 will leave it in the dust and it handles a lot better. It's crazy how fast it is. Probably pick up the Banshee for around $2300-$2500. The 450 is the better deal, but again I'm kind of afraid of the hopped up engine. If the motor goes ka-plow how much are you looking at to rebuild? Thanks in advance.

i would get the 450, they are pretty reliable built up, with proper maintenance it shouldnt blow up.

Yeah kind of leaning that way right now. Any issues with the 05? Saw some stuff in regards to an oil mod? I'm assuming that if it had a bunch of internal work they would have fixed this issue. No records of what was done, just now it's been bored.

yeah you need to get the oil mod done, you can do it yourself or get it professionally done, there is a sticky about it somewhere. also you really have to watch your valves, i would check the lash first thing and shim accordingly.
