Question YFZ YFZR axle

Anyone know if the YFZ axle will fit the YFZR ? I know the a arms wont but maybee the axle might. Im looking for maybee a used domminator or something for my R. Also any ideas on the lenght like a YFZ 2+2 will get me close to 50in on stock YFZR wheel. Thanks Guys

A yfzr axle will not fit into the yfz due to the axle carrier bearings arrangement is different. The carrier is the same.

the diameter of the two axes at the bearing carrier is slightly different. purchase an axle manufactured specifically for your application.

If you look up the parts, you will find that the most of the parts are the same EXCEPT the bearings, axle, and the seals. The o-rings, circlip, bearing spacer and the carrier all are the same from 06 and up. I use this site to look up parts and they are cheap too! Yamaha decided to go with 2 larger bearings in 09 with the R model vise using 4 smaller axle bearings. The axle width difference comes from the different hubs!

sorry i was mistaken. they are the same exact carrier, center tube and all that. the only difference on our lsr carrier is the outer seals.

You have to use the carrier and bearings out of the 06 yfz for the 06 axle to go in the yfz450r swing arm.

Nope that isnt correct. the axles are NOT different nor are the bearings or the housings. I know this first hand because i used thomas browns 2010 yfzR carrier in my 06 yfz450 with a LSR axle. The stock 2009-2011 yfzR axles will fit in a stock yfz and make it wider also.

I know I tried to install a YFZ axle on my bike and the axle is a different diameter.... They are not the same.

All right, I went out to the garage and did some measuring on my stock axles.....

The bearing surface on the YFZ is 1.5745 and the YFZR is 1.5735. That's only .001 which is less than a blonde neither hair.
It's also just enough that putting a new YFZ axle into a New set of YFZR bearings would be very tight, and you probably wouldn't notice how much easier it would be to put a YFZR axle in YFZ bearings.

.001 doesn't sound like much, but if you have too much clearance, the axle will spin in the bearing, ruining your axle. If you don't have enough clearance, the inner race will expand into the bearing balls, removing the clearance they need to function properly.

However, a USED YFZ axle (I'm not sure how used, but I have one that's bent) measures 1.5378 which would go into YFZR bearings.
So......... Yes they will "fit" but your bearing life will suffer. I found this out first hand when I could not get bearings for my R, so I put a set of new YFZ bearings in it (the same bearings that we have used in our YFZ race quads since 2004) and they lasted 2 races. At the time I didn't take the time to measure anything, I just kept R axles in R bearings.
I do know the carriers themselves are the same, but the sprocket and brake hubs are different. You can use a YFZ brake hub in a YFZR if you use a YFZ right side seal and you remove the YFZR spacer. But you will also have premature bearing failure because the YFZR was engineered to use a larger diameter surface to contact the bearing.
