It's also just enough that putting a new YFZ axle into a New set of YFZR bearings would be very tight, and you probably wouldn't notice how much easier it would be to put a YFZR axle in YFZ bearings.

.001 doesn't sound like much, but if you have too much clearance, the axle will spin in the bearing, ruining your axle. If you don't have enough clearance, the inner race will expand into the bearing balls, removing the clearance they need to function properly.

However, a USED YFZ axle (I'm not sure how used, but I have one that's bent) measures 1.5378 which would go into YFZR bearings.
So......... Yes they will "fit" but your bearing life will suffer. I found this out first hand when I could not get bearings for my R, so I put a set of new YFZ bearings in it (the same bearings that we have used in our YFZ race quads since 2004) and they lasted 2 races. At the time I didn't take the time to measure anything, I just kept R axles in R bearings.
I do know the carriers themselves are the same, but the sprocket and brake hubs are different. You can use a YFZ brake hub in a YFZR if you use a YFZ right side seal and you remove the YFZR spacer. But you will also have premature bearing failure because the YFZR was engineered to use a larger diameter surface to contact the bearing.

Great information. That explains why when I put a used Lone Star YFZ axle in my YFZR it was loose.

Like stated before you are better off getting the correct axle for the bike. They do make different axles and carriers for the YFZ and YFZR for a reason.

Guys I hate to bump this one but I just need to absolutely sure I can use this used standard yfz lsr axle as long as I also use the carrier, brake hub, and sprocket hub from a standard yfz. I can get those parts really cheap compared to buying an lsr axle for this r. Thanks

I really appreciate the offer but I already have an lsr axle for a yfz. I just have to get the few other parts to make it work. I figure I can sell my r parts to buy those parts I need.

Ok so with more research it shows the carriers are the same, so that means i'll just need the bearings, seals, brake hub, sprocket hub, and axle nut from a yfz? Wanna get this stuff in next week so let me know.

Finished up the install of the yfz axle in the R.....Used the yfz sprocket hub, brake hub, bearings, seals, and axle nut. The only thing I used off of the R was the oem brake rotor. I ended up selling my stock R sprocket hub and brake hub on ebay which cancelled out anything I spent on the swap. Everything is good to go.

The main reason I did this swap was to show some people that have a heavily modified yfz and end up buying an R can just swap all of the parts from one bike to the other and save themselves some cash from having to buy another high dollar aftermarket axle setup. Also it seems that there are alot more options as far as used aftermarket axles out there, and with a few smart ebay choices, you can still come out cheaper than buying a brand new axle. I definately would have put the pen to paper on this if I didn't have all of these parts already here to use(I only had to purchase the sprocket hub). It just might be cheaper in the end to just buy an axle for the R instead of piecing a yfz setup together if you don't have any stock yfz parts laying around, but if you're like me, and have almost all of the yfz parts handy, then it could really save some cash.

I know most of you already knew this would work, but I figured I would just post up my first hand experience with it for some members that might not have known.
