well, you gotta make sure the shocks are set up for the stock arms. and the r is not true long travel either because aftermarket companies are gonna make a even longer than stock shock and that will be long travel.. if that makes since.
i was in the same boat about wanting to buy shocks for my stock arms on my r. but then i ran across a walsh/fox deal and couldnt turn it down

The stock yfzr arms take a shock that is 18.5" from eye to eye. If you buy aftermarket shocks that are this length they will work with stock arms.

I rode with stock arms and fox evols for awhile on my R. It was a good setup. Only reason I ever got a set of aftermarket arms was because I picked them up for a good price.

If you went with walsh you would need a new shock thats longer. Most LT arms for the YFZR are about 20" eye to eye and the stock shocks are 18.25". There are some companies that make aftermarket arms that work with a stock length shock like JB racing and Houser.

If you are wanting Wals A-arms eventually then wait until you can afford both...or just go with a Houser/JB set up down the road

Houser and JB are both good A-arms
